♕ Press Coverage 2014 ♕

Selection of articles published about the search and discoveries about King Richard III and the search for the king in Leicester 2014:
(Articles of the year 2012 can be found here.)
(Articles of 2013 are collected here.)

(As most articles mix topics, no further sub-groups are built, but the articles are listed in chronological order. Newest articles at the top.)

  • Yorkshire Post: Outcry at secret deal on King’s remains (March 12, 2014) –

When ‘old’ politics become ‘new’ politics – or rather the other way around?
Julian Sturdy, MP for York, with a democratic apporach to a late Medieval monarch.

  • BBC News: Richard III: Does it matter where he is buried?, by Ben Truslove (March 12, 2014) –

Highly interesting overview of positions in the ongoing ‘battle of the cities’. Quoting Shakespeare about Richard III really is a daring concept in the already heated battle, but what a quote to answer a necessary question: “Does it matter where he is buried?” – “Alas, why would you heap this care on me?” (Shakespeare “Richard III”)

  • Hinckley Times: Village should be jumping on King Richard III’s bandwagon, by Karen Hambridge (March 11, 2014) –

Stoke Golding, the village with the part of the battlefield, where King Richard III supposedly died, will preserve this area and commemorate King Richard III. – Though, may be, as a first step I would suggest to repaint their ‘Welcome’ sign. Otherwise it looks as if their position in looking at the ‘Battle of Bosworth’ is partial and not in favour of King Richard III.

  • Leicester Mercury: University will retain rights on reinterment, by Neil Parpworth, Principal Lecturer in Law, Leicester De Montfort Law School (March 11, 2014) –

Legal background of the High Court procedure to review the decision of the University of Leicester for a Leicester burial. What can the review reach and what not? A really interesting analysis of a court procedure and its intended ‘limited’ effects.

  • BBC News: Richard III campaigners hold rally ahead of judicial review (March 10, 2014) –

Before the anticipated High Court hearing about King Richard III and his burial on Thursday, 13 March 2014, supporters of King Richard III gather to support Leicester. With a video report by BBC News Leicester.

  • Leicester Mercury: Yorkshire MP in blast at Leicester over claims to rebury Richard III (March 8, 2014) –

How much democracy would King Richard III have expected or judged to be wise in a decision about his last resting place? Where would he have wanted to rest and would he even have considered either Leicester or York during his lifetime? – I start to wonder, when seeing all the new arguments demanding the one or other solution, while arguments heat up before the High Court hearing on Thursday, 13 March 2014.

  • Yorkshire Post: Battle lines drawn over Richard III’s remains (March 8, 2014) –

Battlelines for the upcoming conflict at the High Court, where the adequate and ethically correct procedure has to be found to proceed with the burial of King Richard III.

  • Gloucester Citizen: Richard III events lined up for Gloucester, by Ben Falconer (February 28, 2014) –

Events in Gloucester coming up in March announced in this article by Ben Falconer.
19th – 30th March 2014 Richard III festival in Gloucester
21 March 2014 – MP Chris Skidmore – Talk: Richard III, Tyrant or Accidental King (Gloucester Blackfriars, North Range, 6 p.m.)
For more details, please visit the article link.

  • The Guardian: Runner up: University of Leicester (February 27, 2014) –

The background behind the press campaign of the University of Leicester announcing the finding of King Richard III. I had always wondered how they managed it while they were for a long time not believing to have found the king.

  • ITV.com: Petition launched to stop more Richard III tests (February 25, 2014) –

Petition initiated by historian Dr. John Ashdown-Hill to protect the remains of King Richard III. There should also be an interview with Dr. Ashdown-Hill available on ITV on 25th of February 2014, but I could not access or verify a link to it so far.

  • Visit Leicester: King Richard III Audio Tour, by Leicester City Council (February 25, 2014) –

Even from afar, you now can go on tour through Leicester with this newly uploaded audio guide and maps of relevant historic spots with relevance for King Richard III.
