Fan-Art-Event: Who Loves Countdowns ?

Fan-Art banner small

October went by in a hurry and blur of activities around our KingRichardArmitage Fan-Art Event.

The last day of October came much too early for quite a few of us, not only, because bccmee’s gif-month is coming to an end as well.
So we came up with an updated deadline for the Fan-Art Event.

We already have wonderful results and contributions we are burning to present to you.
We will start to present the results, beginning with the first

this Wednesday (November 2nd, 2011)

and will continue with our presentations on a weekly basis.

So for all of you, who could not make it till the end of October, you have more time and we welcome your contributions at any time.

Have fun and enjoy the creative inspiration of our King Richard!

Don’t feel discouraged that you could not make it till the end of October. We know by our own experience this month, that life always wants to get a hand in on our well laid out plans – and what would life be if it could not throw some surprises in – boring. The fan community of Richard Armitage certainly is not boring and so keep working on your projects.

We welcome your participation!

For all who celebrate it, have a nice and scary Halloween and for all with a holiday tomorrow, enjoy your free day!

King Richard III – Conference (15th October, 2011)

Loyal to the Truth – Conference 2011

The Richard III Foundation Inc.,  a very friendly research group and supportive to our cause, holds a coference with diverse research topics about and around King Richard III. on October 15th, 2011.

The full schedule can be reached here at the website of the Richard III Foundation, Inc.

The registration form for the event can be downloaded here: Conference registration (15th of October, 2011)

It is quite undisputed, that King Richard III had good fighting and strategic military knowledge. This helped him during his border campaigns to secure the peace between England and Scotland. His campaigns lead to a somewhat effective peace between both realms.

The conference will research more generally the military warfare and procedures during the 15th centuries and specially the battles of Richard III at the Scottish border, in his time before he became King Richard III.

Topics and readings at the conference are:

  • Professor Anne Curry – Military Career and Armies in the Wars of the Roses
  • Professor Matthew Strickland – Warfare in Mid 15th Century France and Burgundy
  • Dr. Tim Sutherland – Cannons, Arrowheads and Mass Graves: Towton – Archaeological Evidence of Britain’s Bloodiest Battle
  • Peter Algar – Hot Coals of Vengeance! A foray into the ill-famed family of Cliffords.
  • Mark Stretton – The Power and Effectiveness of the Warbow in Battles
  • John Sadler – The Anglo-Scottish War of 1482.
  • Michael Miller – The Man Who Would Be King
  • Special introduction by the Foundation’s honorary patron – Robert Hardy, CBE. “A Towton Tale” by the late John Davey – narrated and acted by John Pilkington.

Beginning is at 9:00 a.m. and approximate end will be 5:00 p.m.

(Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.)

Location is the Dixie Grammar School in Market Bosworth

King Richard III – A Typical Libra?

Libra 15th century

Libra - 15th century (Source: Wikimedia.org)

I am in no way an experienced astrologer and my historical research about King Richard III is in no way complete, still some aspects came up during my reading, which might support a ‘Libra’ characterisation of King Richard, born on the 2nd of October, 1452.

My mother and sister are born under the Libra sign and I later discovered, that most of my close friends are Libras. So I have some kind of practical experience in coping with Libras, though not a formal astrological foundation for my article.

In this Huffington Post Horoscope, you will find some general analysis of a Libra born.

If you have further information or can contribute to the following musings, please feel free to comment, extend or correct in the comment section to this article. Thank you!

Character aspects for me typically connected to a Libra born person are:

  • deep sense of justice
  • ability to balance opposites
  • sense for beauty (one’s own and in one’s surrounding)
  • strong drive to make things better and/or more beautiful

Negative aspects, as every zodiac sign has some:

  • indecisiveness

(Due to the ability to understand opposite positions, the Libra born sometimes has a hard time in coming to a decision which side to support.)

Why do I see King Richard III as a typical Libra:

There are many aspects in his life and later during his reign, which in my opinion make him a typical Libra.

  • He never started an intrigue or initiated a political action, though he had lots of opportunity. On the contrary, he reacted and was driven by things and situations put upon him.
  • He tried to develop a balance between diverse opposite positions, family members and rivaling parties in his country.
  • He had a strong moral motivation to even accept to limit his own power as a noble by setting up a judicial system which did not divide between noble man and commoner.

In what historic circumstances do these aspects show themselves?

  • Richard III was placed between his fighting older brothers King Edward IV and George, Duke of Clarence. After the open rebellion by his brother George, he as the youngest of the three reached a reconciliation between his older brothers again.
  • He was in an arbitrator position between again King Edward IV and their mother, who like him did not like King Edwards wife, Elizabeth Woodville, and openly plotted against her eldest son.
  • He tried to find a just representation for the North, which was previously underrepresented. This placed him between the North and South in the political intrigues, whereas he as a man from the north with strong juridical knowledge tried to adjust the imbalance.
  • He appeased the rivaling parties in the northern parts of England with a great understanding of justice, the legal system of the time and understanding for the needs of each party.
  • He reached a kind of border peace between England and Scotland, with force and diplomacy.
  • In the long ongoing difference between nobles and royal power, his at first noble position and later as king, placed him in both realms, where he tried to create and form a better outcome.
  • King Richard tried to balance the dominance or hegemonic power of the nobles by implementing and re-enforcing a legal system for all equally, which placed him between nobles and subjects. With his actions he limited the rights of the nobles, who no longer stood beyond the law and could evade justice.

From these perspectives, King Richard III was in the middle of quite a lot of conflict and dispute, which he had to balance as a Libra. But as the horoscope by the Huffington Post states, a Libra does not shy away from conflict, but stays right in the middle of it – how true in this case.
With all the conflicts around him, it is no wonder he could not win in the end and here we did not even start to cover the conflict between the Lancastrians and the Yorkists, the genealogical aspect of conflict, leading to King Richard III’s end in the Battle of Bosworth.

Happy Birthday, King Richard III

Today, the 2nd of October, is the

559th Birthday of King Richard III.

We now know how to congratulate a king, but as a birthday cake, not even a virtual one, would not reach our king, our congratulations must do without a cake.

Crown

Happy Birthday, King Richard !

To please our king and as a kind of a birthday present, we have started a Fan-Art page.

Fan-Art Banner - KingRichardArmitage

As a kick-off, we thought about a special event with individual presentation for all participants and their contributions who take part till the end of October 2011.

Contributions are welcome at any time, but the first brave enough to try their skills with topics around Richard Armitage and Richard III deserve an extra bonus!

So we came up with plans for a:

Fan-Art Event (October 2011):

What we have to offer to those brave participants:

  • a presentation of the fan-art (form is open and up to you) on the KingRichardArmitage-Website
  • promotion on participating blogs
  • an interview with you (if you like),
  • an analysis of the fan-art (if you like) from Servetus on Me+RichardArmitage.

Only condition:

  • Topic must be related to Richard Armitage and Richard III in some way.

Now it is only for us to wish you lots of fun and enjoyment with forming and creating your ideas. We are very curious with what ideas you come up with, as we are convinced the creativity of RA-fans knows no bounds, and look forward to your projects.

Thank you for taking part and we wish you a great time!

Yours,

Christine
